"Crystalline, pure and bright with subtle old wood, lemon zest and white flower notes and a racy, saline finish." Tim Atkin MW, South Africa Report 2021, 93pts
Type: White
Country of Origin: South Africa
Region: Western Cape
Grapes: 100% Chenin Blanc
Vintage: 2021
Style: Full bodied & Rich White
Sweetness: Dry
This is the maiden vintage of this wine and is slight departure from Chris Alheit's philosophy in that this is made from relatively young Chenin Blanc vines, which gives Chris more flexibility in sourcing grapes, based on the quality of the vineyard and not just a prescribed age of vines.
The grapes are sourced from two young blocks in Stellenbosch. One is one granite soils in the Polkadraai Hills, the other from deep red soil in Upper Blaauwklippen. Chris intends to use other vineyards for future releases including those from his own estate-owned sites in Swartland.
