Nebbiolo 100%
This wine was created by Azienda Agricola Cogno as an "introduction" to Barolo: a wine that would be enjoyable relatively early and enable consumers to appreciate the style of Barolo wines before moving on to more complex examples.
The grapes are grown 380 meters above sea level. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, with regular pumping over to aid extraction. The wine is aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels then a further 6 months in bottle before release.
Elvio Cogno was ran a successful restaurant whilst also owning a vineyard that had been handed down through generations of his family. He decided to use some of the grapes to produce his own wine to serve in the restaurant. The wine was so successful that he was soon being contacted by other businesses wanting to buy his wine. In the late 1950's Elvio left the restaurant in order to concentrate on producing wine. His first Barolo was produced in 1961 and in 1964 he began a new era for Barolo by identifying the vineyard on the label. In 1990 he purchased Cascina Nuova in Ravera, renovating the large farmhouse to create a new winery.
