Produced with grapes grown in the La Miranda vineyard in Secastilla within the Sormontano DO area. Its stony slopes at 700m altitude on the valley side provide an ideal microclimate and exposure to the sun for the development of flavours and ripening of the grapes. The grapes are hand harvested into small boxes, before careful de-stemming and crushing in the vineyard, to minimise the time between picking and processing. The must is transferred to the winery where the finest portion of the pressing is fermented to produce this wine. The wine is racked, matured in oak barrels for 4 months then filtered before bottling.

Viñas del Vero owes its name to a river in the Somontano region, at the foot of the Pyrenees, famous for its ravines, gorges and canyons. It was established in 1986 with the acquisition of 550 hectares of land in Barbastro and other nearby towns. The vineyards were initially replanted with the traditional varieties of the region (Tempranillo, Moristel, Garnacha and Macabeo) before the later introduction of international varieties: Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Viñas del Vero have an ongoing research project with the University of Zaragoza to classify and perpetuate indigenous grape varieties. This has already identified 2 previously unclassified varieties: Secastilla Muscatel and Alcañón Royo.

Production practice is organic and within the vineyards and winery a number of techniques have been developed to minimise water consumption.
